Reishi & Lions Mane Mushroom Benefits

Over the last year or so, I’ve been adding Reishi and Lion’s Mane mushroom powder to my coffee in the mornings. I first heard about it from a mycologist and mushroom enthusiast, Paul Stamets. They have long been used and have many health benefits you probably would never think of from simple mushroom powder.

Reishi Mushroom:

The Reishi Mushroom has been used in ancient Chinese Medicine for over 2000 years. Back in the day, it was very rare to find in Nature, so it was only for the consumption of Noble people. The Reishi mushroom is a spiritual plant, a power symbol for health, success, and divine power. It’s commonly known as the “Mushroom of immortality”, as it promotes cardiovascular health, activates white blood cells for immune strength, and helps support energy (Stamets, 2017).

Lion’s Mane Mushroom:

The Lion’s Mane Mushroom  has long been used during meditation for focus. Now, commonly used for mental clarity, memory, and creativeness. A study in 2013 (Lai, et al.) found that Lion’s Mane induced Nerve Growth Factor (NGF)- synthesis. NGF is essential for the maintenance of the basal forebrain, which is responsible for information processing. Damage to this region can cause cognitive deficits, like amnesia or attentional impairments (Botly, 2009). Lion’s Mane also promotes the growth of neurons (neurogenesis), which supports cognitive functioning.

In short, the small amount of research on Lion’s Mane has found that it may protect against dementia, reduce mild symptoms of anxiety and depression, and help repair nerve damage. The research on Reishi may promote heart health, boost the immune system, and increase energy. Much more research is needed to be done to truly know the benefits of these magical fungi, but in the meantime, check it out for yourselves!! 🙂

More Information:

It is recommended you buy these mushrooms from a US manufacturer, as the ones from China are often phony shrooms. Check out the products at
